John Mallee
John Mallee was the first-ever head coach for a Champions International team. In 1995 John, and pitching coach Steve Otto, led the Chicago Green Sox to a first-place finish in the Beijing International Baseball Tournament in China.
Prior to this, after a playing career at the University of Illinois-Chicago and in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system, John had retired, becoming a high school assistant coach and an instructor for the Chicago White Sox youth baseball camp program.
The 1995 Chicago Green Sox team was Mallee's first head coaching position. John's ability to lead, teach, and inspire confidence were clearly evident from the start.
The Milwaukee Brewers thought so too and in 1996 hired John to be their hitting coach in Beloit (low-A minor league). From there John progressed up the ladder with the Brewers, then the Montreal Expos, and eventually came to his current role as Minor Leage Hitting Coordinator for the Florida Marlins.
At more than 8 years in his current role, John is the longest tenured minor league hitting coordinator in professional baseball. Perhaps not for long- this offseason, Mallee was a finalist for the Major League hitting coach position with the Texas Rangers. Read More: Click Here
